Short Memories

If I ask you to tell me about one of the worst teachers you've ever had, I have no doubt you can describe him or her perfectly. (I recall Ms Right who was notorious for her short temper, and once threw a chair clean across the classroom). I am equally sure you would not struggle to recall the best teacher you've ever had.

But can you remember with the same detail all the other teachers you've had that do not fit those two extremes?

We remember the extremes. But we especially remember the negatives.

We might have eaten out at that same restaurant twenty times, but we remember that one time that the service was terrible and soup was cold, and we make a point of never eating there again.

Equally, we make a point of getting our daily caffeine fix from the barista who not only makes the coffee exactly how you like it, but also asks you about your day and seems interested in your response.

Our memories don't have time nor space for all the other interactions throughout the day that were simply mediocre.

How do you want to be remembered?
