Katherine Appleby | Fine Art Watercolour & Children’s Book Illustration

Hello, I’m Katherine — an illustrator and designer with two creative worlds.

Through my fine art illustration, I bring the natural world to life in delicate watercolour works inspired by flora, fauna, food, and everyday objects. My style is rooted in a natural history tradition, with a contemporary twist that celebrates detail and storytelling.

Through Indikat, I explore a more playful side of illustration — creating character-driven artworks, stationery, and accessories designed to spark joy and add a little fun to everyday life. I also illustrate children’s picture books.

I hold a Bachelor of Creative Arts with Distinction from the University of Southern Queensland (Visual Arts/Marketing) and was honoured with the Golden Key International Honour Society Award for Visual and Performing Arts (Painting) in 2013. Alongside my practice, I completed a Certificate IV in Graphic Design and work professionally in Marketing and Design.

My illustrations have appeared in children’s books, magazines, greeting cards, and licensed collections, including collaborations with publishers such as Little Steps Publishing and Empowering Resources, as well as stationery and packaging with Nuovo Group and BioPak. My fine art botanical illustration has also appeared on Australia Post stamps!
